Federal stimulus money helps Northern Michigan fish hatchery

When you think about federal stimulus spending, you may think of road projects... maybe city infrastructure work. You probably don't think of fish food freezers.

But it turns out some stimulus money is going to the Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery in Chippewa county .
The hatchery received more than 45-thousand dollars. They're using it to buy a more efficient fish food freezer and to install energy efficient lights.
Curt Freeze is Project Manager with the Hatchery.

"I think if you look at these two small pieces, and then you look at the fish and wildlife service from an overall standpoint, these little things that we do over time will add up to be fairly significant savings in the long term in the big picture."

Freeze says in addition to the financial savings that come from the energy efficiency upgrades... the hatchery will also be better equipped to continue to stock Lake Trout for the important sport fishing industry on Lakes Michigan and Huron.
