GM invests $21 million to build new crew cab

General motors has made its first investment  since its rise from bankruptcy earlier this year. The company announced plans to invest over 20 million dollars in its assembly plant in Flint.

GM says the purpose of the investment is to keep up with increased demand for the light duty Chevy Crew Cab. The money will be used to install new machinery, equipment, and tooling to support the new light duty assembly processes.

Kevin Madrowski is with Flint Assembly.  He says recent reports make him confident that this will be a good investment.

"You can't predict the future but the reports show us that we do have an uptick in market demand and our investment in this facility meets the needs our customers currently but it also provides the flexibility going forward with additional capacity with heavy duty and now light duty production.  So it does meet the needs of our customers and provides us with additional flexibility with different products built."

Madrowski says GM plans to complete construction and begin building the vehicle by the middle of next year.
