State says competitive grants may create jobs

More stimulus money is coming to the state.  This time it will be used to create jobs and lower the use of fossil fuels

Governor Granholm has announced that over seventeen-million-dollars in competitive grants will fund energy conservation projects throughout the state.
Officials say the grants are expected to create new jobs in Michigan and cut into the use of fossil fuels..

Jan Patrick is the manager of the State's energy efficiency and conservation block program.

"The job creation comes in from the fact that energy conservation creates instillation jobs, auditing jobs, consulting jobs, administrative jobs, it also creates manufacturing jobs from the instillation the lighting, the controls and all of those things that are required to put together an energy conservation project."

Patrick says she hopes people will begin to see lower energy costs and new jobs as a result of the grants within the next year.
